How the Balenciaga rule works

Supported Balenciaga interior tags use a season letter. Because letters were reused, the checker lists every documented season instead of eliminating a cycle from tag material alone.

Read it in three passes

Follow the positions in order before interpreting the result.

Use the single letter at the end of the interior tag marking rather than the preceding style digits.

Match the letter against the complete Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter chart.

Use construction and provenance to compare repeated results; a metal plate alone does not select one cycle reliably.

Balenciaga season letters run backward through repeating cycles. The letter can narrow the season and year only when the tag construction and general era agree.

The 2024–2025 season assignment has less independent support than the earlier chart. The year pairing is retained as a compiled reference, with no extrapolation beyond 2025.

02Observed pattern

Find the date letter on the tag

On many metal tags the season letter follows a numeric group; on leather tags it often appears on the reverse with style and production information.

Numbers beside the letter identify the product or production record rather than the season.
The first cycle skipped X between Y and W; do not fill that gap by assumption.
Metal versus leather is useful era context, but it is not a universal rule across every style and transition.
The season letter contains no public country or factory mapping.

Sources and method

Brand and archive material is preferred where it exists. Public decoding tables are identified as compiled references or observed patterns so their uncertainty stays visible.
