How the Dior rule works

Supported Dior codes end in four interwoven date digits. Optional production letters before them are a compiled location clue rather than part of the date.

Read it in three passes

Follow the positions in order before interpreting the result.

Keep the final four digits and any production letters printed immediately before them.

Join date positions one and three to form the month from 01 to 12.

Dior codes, era by era

Dior date codes use a four-digit interleaved date group on supported post-1997 pieces. Any leading control digits and the two production letters have separate jobs.

How the four date digits interleave

For digits d1 d2 d3 d4, join d1 with d3 for the month and d2 with d4 for the two-digit year.

The century must agree with the item's era. Correct arithmetic is only a consistency check and cannot establish authenticity.
