Spaces, dots, and dashes are fine. Manual checks run in your browser. Photo reads log your IP and usage to enforce daily limits; photos are not stored.

Read code from a product photo

JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, up to 10 MiB. AuthenticityHouse forwards the photo to its OCR provider and does not store it.

Reference only—not an authenticity verdict
A plausible date code can appear on a counterfeit, and an unusual or unreadable code does not by itself make an item counterfeit. Use the result as one clue alongside construction, materials, provenance, and expert review.

How the Gucci rule works

Gucci uses several unrelated marking systems. Classic leather-tab serials describe style and production details, while supported black fabric tags contain a year group.

Read it in three passes
Follow the positions in order before interpreting the result.
  1. 1

Identify whether the code is on a classic leather tab or a newer black fabric tag.

  2. 2

On supported black tags, map the three digits after the opening letter to a production year.

  3. 3

Treat one-row and two-row classic numeric serials as format information, not a public date.

Where to look

Look inside for a leather serial tab or a black fabric tag sewn into an interior seam.

Know the limit

The tag type and layout must be identified before the marking can be classified correctly.

These rules explain documented marking patterns. They do not prove that an item is authentic.

Full reference

Gucci codes, era by era

Gucci has used several unrelated identifiers. Classic leather-tab numbers describe the product and production reference, while selected black fabric tags use a separate compiled year group.

01Compiled reference

Identify the marking before reading it

A classic number, a black data tag, and a current NFC Authenticity Tag should never be interpreted with the same rule.

Specialist tables disagree at the 039/040 boundary and on when adoption became widespread. Treat this as an observed production convention and do not extend it beyond 042 without newer evidence.

Location and practical limits

The leather number is normally on the reverse of an interior logo tab; the black tag is usually sewn into a seam or pocket area.

  • Classic number pairs are not unique item serials and do not provide a manufacturing date.
  • The lower classic row is best described as a supplier, batch, or production reference—not a proven factory code.
  • Official NFC support applies only to selected products and is separate from the black-tag year lookup.

Sources and method

Brand and archive material is preferred where it exists. Public decoding tables are identified as compiled references or observed patterns so their uncertainty stays visible.
