How the Panerai rule works

Panerai's millesimation series maps the unlettered Pre-A period and A–Z through AA and AB. Case-number prefixes, OP, PAM, and OOR markings serve different purposes.

Read it in three passes

Follow the positions in order before interpreting the result.

Use the production-series mark next to the edition number on the caseback.

Use Pre-A as a research category for unlettered 1997 production; map A–Z to 1998–2023, AA to 2024, and AB to 2025.

Keep two-letter case numbers, OP case types, PAM model references, and OOR markings separate from the series.

The documented table currently ends at AB for 2025; later two-letter assignments should not be predicted.

Panerai casebacks can show a millesimation series, an edition count, a watch serial, a case designation, and a model reference at once. Only the production-series letter is mapped to a year here.

Millesimation series from Pre-A through AB

The regular letter sequence begins with A in 1998. Pre-A identifies 1997 production, while two-letter AA and AB series extend the table through 2025.

Pre-A is a collector label for unlettered 1997 production, not a literal caseback inscription. Both I and O occur in the later sequence; do not skip them or predict AC before it is documented.

The prefixes surrounding the millesimation letter have different roles and are not alternative year codes.

Panerai's official warranty and service channels are the appropriate route for registered product details and interventions.

Photograph the full caseback so the series letter is not confused with a prefix in another field.
Use PAM Guard and service paperwork as supporting records, not the mere shape of a serial.
A millesimation year is a production-series indication, not an authenticity verdict.

Sources and method

Brand and archive material is preferred where it exists. Public decoding tables are identified as compiled references or observed patterns so their uncertainty stays visible.
